Evaluation Criteria for Secondary Schools – 6. Performance Opportunities

Do you offer regular performance opportunities to all pupils?

Pupils don’t often perform to an audience as part of the curriculum, perhaps due to timetabling issues.
There are no additional performance opportunities.
Some performance opportunities are offered through curriculum music but these are not evident in planning.
Only the more able or those who opt-in perform in settings that are more formal: perhaps in assembly or at school concerts.
Regular performances for all students in a classroom setting are evidenced through curriculum planning.
A range of regular performance opportunities are encouraged for pupils engaged with instrumental/singing lessons and extra-curricular music.  These include some external performances.
Performance opportunities are seen as an integral part of the music curriculum as evidenced through planning throughout KS3.
All instrumental/singing/
DJ/music technology pupils have regular opportunities to perform both in and out of school.  Performances out of school will include some professional venues (Corn Exchange, Esquires, The Stables etc.)

We offer one-hour consultation free to each school to support the development of music provision in your setting. Details of all our school support can be found here.
