Evaluation Criteria for Primary Schools – 6. Performance Opportunities

Do you offer regular performance opportunities to all children?

Pupils don’t often perform to an audience as part of the curriculum, perhaps due to timetabling issues.
There are no additional performance opportunities.
There is a year group trip to Sing On and perhaps a whole class instrumental tuition live performance planned into the curriculum.
Only the more able or those who opt-in perform on occasion, perhaps in assembly or at Christmas.
Pupils perform to another class on occasion. Performances are planned into each year group’s curriculum.
Pupils are encouraged to perform and given this platform in school. Regular performance opportunities are encouraged for pupils engaged with instrumental lessons and extra curricular music (in assemblies/in class/on school radio etc).
Each year group performs to an audience at least once a year. The curriculum overview sets out performance opportunities for each scheme of work.
All pupils can perform every year in some context, school facilitates some access for pupils where barriers exist- for example transport to fiddle fiesta. All instrumental/DJ/music technology pupils perform once a year in a concert arranged by school.

We offer a one-hour consultation free to each school to support the development of music provision in your setting. Details of all our school support can be found here.

All our instrumental, creative and singing projects culminate in a celebratory performance. For more details, please see our school brochure.
