Welcome to Music Time with Nursery Rhymes! This set of resources has been created to help EYFS practitioners use nursery rhymes with the children in their care. Hopefully, it will be a useful resource to dip in and out of to complement your musical activities.
Download the Music Time with Nursery Rhymes original booklet to read about all sorts of teaching tips from singing in a child friendly range to using percussion and planning your progressive music sessions. Additional Resources (PDFs) such as little lesson plans, colour song pages to print, colouring pages and additional notation are listed below.
The instrument kit mentioned in these resources is a set of mixed classroom percussion for a class of 30 children. You may have some instruments already that could be used along with the songs. Each Bedford Borough EYFS Hub has two kits to loan out to EYFS establishments in their hub for free.
Each song page has the song lyrics, starting notes to play on chimes to guide our voice to a child friendly range, fun and easy musical activities, a discussion point and a teacher training film clip. Each film clip shows practitioners how the song can be sung with actions. Easy ostinato patterns are also shown. These are repeating rhythmic patterns using words from the song. Ostinato patterns can be played as a stand alone activity for younger children or, with enough grown ups available, in adult lead groups as accompaniment to the song from reception age.
